Behaviour Code for Students

BEHAVIOUR CODE FOR STUDENTS 

Kangaroo Valley Public School is committed to providing safe, supportive and responsive learning environments for everyone. The School Values are: ‘Respect, Responsibility, Learning’ We teach and model the behaviours we value in our students.

In NSW public schools, students are expected to:

  • Respect other students, their teachers, school staff and community members
  • Follow school and class rules and follow the directions of their teachers Strive for the highest standard in learning
  • Respect all members of the school community and show courtesy to all students, teachers and community members
  • Resolve conflict respectfully, calmly and fairly.
  • Comply with the school’s uniform policy or dress code.
  • Attend school every day
  • Respect all property
  • Not be violent or bring weapons to school
  • Not bully, harass, intimidate or discriminate against anyone in our school

A high standard of socially acceptable behaviour is expected from every child. Children are encouraged to practice self-discipline and to accept responsibility for their words and actions.

The social and cultural development of children at Kangaroo Valley Public School is encouraged with an awareness of the needs of all children and families for respect and fair treatment.

An anti-racism policy is in place whereby complaints can be constructively attended to.

Action will be taken in relation to complaints of violence, victimization or harassment affecting any child at the school. All school staff complete annual mandatory training to support our students. 

BULLYING

Bullying is a pattern of behaviour by one person towards another, which is designed to hurt, injure, embarrass, upset or discomfort that person.

It can be:

  • Physical aggression
  • The use of put-downs, comments or insults
  • Name calling
  • Damage to the person’s property
  • Deliberate exclusion from activities
  • The setting up of humiliating experiences

In line with the Department of Education bullying policy, our school does not tolerate bullying or harassment. Communication and support with children and parents in regards to this will be prioritised. If you are concerned about bullying please contact your child's teacher or the Principal.
